Omar Garcia was tragically taken from us on Thursday May 11th 2017 in a head on car crash. He was and will remain an integral part of the Tennis Monsters Team. Omar spent the last two years as the head tennis coach at Waimauku tennis club. His high energy, positive comments, caring nature and infectious laugh will be missed by many.
Omar inspired the development of the Tennis Monsters High Performance Squads (HPS) through his passion and unwavering determination to help every tennis player be the best that they can be. We will always be grateful for his loyalty, friendship and love.
We miss you Omar and you will forever be in our hearts.
As a tribute to Omar the Main Draw tournament organisation hold a yearly event to remember him by. Held at the West Harbour Tennis Club (which is where he was coaching at the time of his death), known as the West Harbour Omar David Garcia Memorial Tournament, held Queen’s Birthday Weekend.
Omar was born in Colombia and began playing tennis at the age of 4-years-old. Living in Australia, Omar’s passion for tennis and competition grew seeing Omar playing at junior tournaments all over Australia. While at school, Omar’s team was placed #2 in New South Wales and #7 in Australia.
Omar enjoyed playing competitive tennis and was passionate about coaching and developing young players so they too can fulfill their dreams.
